On Thursday, September 10, we premiered our new production,
Thumbelina, at Nørregaards Teater.
This production marks the theatre's first foray into the works of Hans Christian Andersen and our first true co-production, created in partnership with Nørregaards Teater.
This collaboration has allowed us to create a more elaborate set design that does not need to meet the constraints of a fast-paced touring schedule; Thumbelina is designed to be performed at theatres for extended runs.
Set designer Filippa Berglund has created a beautiful botanical auditorium as the setting for the show, while director Alex Byrne has staged the story in his signature style, featuring an inventive interplay between ensemble storytelling, scenic solutions, puppets, and live music.
True to the original tale, the narrative balances the poetic nature of Thumbelina’s journey through the elements against the danger and grotesque comedy of her encounters with creatures who all want something from her. Ultimately, no matter how small she is, she must discover what *she* wants for herself...
The production is aimed at children aged 5 to 12—and the adults accompanying them. The cast features Maria Myrgård, Maja Skovhus Rehøj, Bastian Popp, and Dirck Backer.
